2018 Pinot Gris
Winemaker Note: In 2018 we took a different approach to our Pinot Gris vinification, moving to fermenting in barrels of various size and wood type. By moving out of stainless steel, we leave behind some of the fresh fruit in order to explore a more diverse set of flavors and build a textural component into the wine. Whereas past Madison County Pinot Gris bottlings leaned a bit toward northern Italy, we creep a little closer to the way they make the grape in the Willamette valley.
Wine Description: While there is plenty of pear and apple fruit, we also have an herbal, white flower component that rides on top of the mineral tinged leesiness in both the aromas and flavors. They palate is medium bodied with a balance of richness and acidity carrying through a clean finish.
