2021 Quaker Run Rosé
2021 Quaker Run Rosé
The aromas of this rosé take you directly to the deeper, darker red flavors of ripe black cherries and boysenberries, accented by clementine. The wine is round, mouth filling and almost seems to dance a bit into red wine territory, but finishing with a liveliness that rosé often brings. That’s likely from the small amount of tannin present courtesy of longer skin contact before pressing. The wine lingers more on the palate than a typical rosé, giving it the ability to pair with heartier, more flavorful dishes.

Winemaker Notes
This is the third bottling of our Quaker Run rosé. While we jokingly refer to this wine as our “fancy” rosé, the wine began as a reaction to 2020, where we chose, due to weather, to decrease our crop in the old vine Quaker Run Merlot, often used to make Rise, Eluvium and Novum, to assist with ripening and leaving lots of room for air flow. The fruit removed was at the perfect chemistry for rosé and we decided to make a more extractive rosé to showcase these old vines. We discovered the unique depth, texture and complexity of Quaker Run Merlot when made into rosé and it has quickly become one of our favorite projects!
2022 was an eventful vintage for Early Mountain, with climatic events varying significantly from site to site. Early spring, we experienced few frost events, escaping significant fruit damage. Throughout spring and into summer, we saw typical showers, which thankfully cleared up around bloom time, returning shortly after, resulting in a bit more of a rainy season than 2021 experienced.. As the season progressed, we saw greater variability in rainfall depending on site, throughout the state. The late season rains, leading to harvest were also accompanied by notable drying, and at times, significant diurnal shifts, which allowed for balanced vineyards to fully ripen prior to seeing the remnants of Hurricane Ian.
