At this point it is well understood that we are suckers for Petit Manseng and Sauvignon Blanc. Petit Manseng is quite possibly our favourite variety to grow at the Early Mountain site, and rather conversely, when Sauvignon Blanc was planted, we thought it was a huge gamble (very tight clusters, somewhat finicky during cropping, doesn’t love cold, etc.). Amazingly, it surprised us and excelled in the vineyard, so we naturally had to plant more, of course iin addition to more Petit Manseng! These two semi-aromatic varieties seem like such a natural fit together, which allows us to make two wines based on them, Intention and Five Forks. Five Forks focuses on acid and the freshness of both Petit Manseng and Sauvignon Blanc. Petit Manseng has a pension forleaning into a more savoury territory and the Sauvignon Blanc has a knack for snapping it right out. In 2022, we also accented this blend with the smallest bit of Malvaisa Bianca for aromatics - trust us when we say a little goes a long way with Malvaisa Bianca! In 2022, the Petit Manseng was picked in several different lots, leading to depth of acid and flavour. A portion of the Sauvignon Blanc saw 24 hours skin contact, leading to greater aromatics. The 2022 vintage is a little less brooding than 2021, and focuses on bright and elevated aromas. Oh and just to keep everyone on their toes, we changed the packaging. Over time we have found we love Five Forks with some age on it, so we moved to an antique green bottle, better protecting the wine from light and also signaling this wine has more longevity to it.
