2022 Madison County Cabernet Franc
2022 Madison County Cabernet Franc
Our 2022 Cabernet Franc, blending Quaker Run and estate grapes, captures the vintage's essence with a fusion of mountain and clay-rich terroir flavors, featuring red berries, stone fruit, boysenberry, savory herbs and dried citrus, all framed by smooth, elegant tannins. With a Burgundy-inspired focus on silky textures and aromatic richness, this approach brings out a fresher varietal expression. Silky and vibrant, serve at cellar temperature to showcase the lively character of Cabernet Franc.

Winemaker Notes
With the 2022 vintage, this bottling is one of many expressions of Cabernet Franc that we produced. We believe this grape is reflective of place and transparent of site and vintage when handled appropriately. In 2017 our newer plantings at Quaker Run and Early Mountain gave us enough compelling material to make a Madison County wine and we have continued to highlight this regional blend since. Because of the two very distinctive sites used in this bottling (mountainside Quaker Run and heavier soils of Early Mountain), it is a wine that always seems to reflect the vintage in a more prominent way.
Early spring, we experienced few frost events, escaping significant fruit damage. Throughout spring and into summer, we saw typical showers, which thankfully cleared up around bloomtime, returning shortly after, resulting in a bit more of a rainy season than 2021 experienced.. As the season progressed, we saw greater variability in rainfall depending on site, throughout the state. The late season rains, leading to harvest were also accompanied by notable drying, and at times, significant diurnal shifts, which allowed for balanced vineyards to fully ripen prior to seeing the remnants of Hurricane Ian.
