2022 Pur

2022 Pur
“Pur” is French for “pure”, with this wine so named due to it's majority influence of stainless steel fermentation. In 2017 we began making Pur, leaving a small portion of Chardonnay and Pinot Gris for co-ferment in stainless steel. Notably, the winemaking for this and barrel fermented Chardonnay remain very similar, we prefer to ferment warmer, allowing simple fruity aromas to dissipate and amplify more savory and mineral-driven attributes. Additionally, this wine also sees extended lees management while in tank, thereby encouraging a richer textured palate.

Winemaker Notes
On the nose, generous aromas of lemon curd, white nectarine and honeycrisp apple lead to secondary floral attributes of clover followed by fresh citrus. The pallet is a dynamic balance of soft acidity and a medium mouthfeel from the lees exposure.
Vineyard Notes
2022 was an eventful vintage for Early Mountain, with climatic events varying significantly from site to site.
Early spring, we experienced few frost events, escaping significant fruit damage. Throughout spring and into summer, we saw typical showers, which thankfully cleared up around bloomtime, returning shortly after, resulting in a bit more of a rainy season than 2021 experienced.. As the season progressed, we saw greater variability in rainfall depending on site, throughout the state. The late season rains, leading to harvest were also accompanied by notable drying, and at times, significant diurnal shifts, which allowed for balanced vineyards to fully ripen prior to seeing the remnants of Hurricane Ian.
Food Pairing Notes
Like the friend you can take to any gathering, Pur is incredibly versatile with spring and summer fare. Just make sure you’re drinking it on a patio, dock, or by a campfire and you’re set!
